Using the app
How do I change temperature units?
Open About & settings → Temperature → First temperature scale and choose Celsius or Fahrenheit first. Paired readings and widgets follow this order.
For one large reading, choose Tap to switch from the grid button. Use the °C/°F and Actual/Feels like controls, or tap the temperature to switch scales. These choices are saved separately from the paired order.
Why doesn't the Fahrenheit value match converting the Celsius one?
Each pair is rounded separately from the same exact value, so converting the rounded number in your head can land one degree away. A feels-like difference of 1.6°C, for example, shows as "2°C / 3°F" (1.6°C is 2.9°F), while converting the rounded 2°C would give 4°F. Both figures are correct to the nearest degree; neither is derived from the other's rounded value.
How do I change the layout or simplify a card?
The grid button beside the app name chooses the home layout (Dashboard or Reading list), the current-conditions layout (Side by side, Four readings, By scale or Tap to switch) and the card size. Compact cards keep the main reading and become shorter; Detailed is the default. Card size is also in About & settings → Appearance.
The hourly forecast card's icon buttons swap its hour strip for a 24-hour graph of temperature, rain chance, wind, humidity or UV; the first button brings the strip back. Tap an hour for its actual and feels-like readings.
How do I change the app icon?
Open About & settings → Appearance → App icon and tap an icon. Paper is the default; Dawn, Rain, Snow, Night, Storm and Aurora are in the same paper-cut style, and Classic is the original sun and moon. iOS confirms the change with a short message. Paper and Classic also have iOS dark and tinted versions.
How do I rearrange the home sections?
Choose Edit sections… from the grid button, or About & settings → Appearance → Home sections. Drag the hourly forecast, 10-day forecast, measurement tiles or Activities by its handle to a new place; the change applies straight away and is saved. With VoiceOver, use the Move up and Move down actions. Reset to default order puts Activities back at the end. Current conditions and any alerts always stay at the top.
How do I add, reorder, or remove cities?
Open Your places with the list button. Type at least three characters to search, or choose Use my location. Twofold saves up to 12 cities. Use Edit to reorder them, or swipe a city to remove it. Swipe left or right on the forecast to move between cities.
Search works with location permission off. If location access was denied, change it in iOS Location Services settings.
Why has the reading not changed after a refresh?
Pull down on the forecast to refresh. Twofold also refreshes the selected city when you return to the app. A fresh cached response may be reused, and a provider may return unchanged data, so check the reading's timestamp.
If a request fails, Twofold keeps labelled saved weather when available. An unavailable field is not a zero reading. If the app asks you to wait, repeated refreshes do not bypass the provider cooldown or local request limit; the daily limit resets at midnight UTC.
How do I add or change a widget?
Load a city in Twofold first. Then touch and hold the Home Screen, choose Edit → Add Widget, and search for Twofold. There are five widgets: Weather, both ways (small, medium and large), Air quality & pollen, Next 24 hours, Activities and Feels like. For the Lock Screen, touch and hold it and choose Customize → Add Widgets: Weather and Feels like offer a rectangular widget, and Air quality & pollen offers circular and rectangular ones. The small widgets also work in StandBy.
To choose a city, touch and hold a widget and choose Edit Widget → City. Follow Twofold uses the app's selected city. iOS decides when widgets update; Twofold asks for new weather about hourly.
Why is the weather background still?
Motion pauses with iOS Reduce Motion, Low Power Mode, or a hidden or inactive forecast. Missing weather uses a neutral background.
Readings and sources
Why does the temperature differ from another app?
Open About & settings → Weather sources to see the city, coordinates, provider and reading time. Open-Meteo supplies area-based model estimates. In the US, Twofold checks up to three nearby NWS stations and may use a quality-checked observation within 25 km. A station measures its own site, not every address in a city, and other apps can use different sources and update times.
Why does it feel warmer or cooler than the actual temperature?
Under today's high and low, a short line gives the difference in both scales and its main cause: wind, humid or dry air, or strong sunshine. It is hidden when the difference is under 1°C. For Open-Meteo readings the cause is approximate. NWS station readings use wind chill or heat index instead.
What does the Precipitation card show?
The large value is today's expected total. Now: shows the latest reading when available; a missing reading is left out rather than shown as zero. Detailed cards also show the day's peak chance of precipitation.
Why is pollen not available?
Pollen comes from the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) through Open-Meteo, and CAMS models pollen only over Europe. Elsewhere the card says Not available rather than showing zero.
Are NWS alerts live everywhere?
NWS alerts cover supported US locations and territories only. An unavailable or saved alert check does not confirm that there are no current warnings, and bulletins do not send notifications. Consult your official weather authority for current warnings.
Are sun and moon times exact?
Sun times come from the forecast when available. Otherwise the device calculates them, marked ≈ in the hourly forecast and Approximate on the day page. Moon phase and illumination are always approximate calculations on the device.
Rain radar
How does the rain radar work?
Open the map; Rain radar is the first layer. It plays the past two hours of composite radar from RainViewer in 10-minute frames, centred on the selected city. Tap pause or drag the time slider to pick a frame. Radar shows precipitation that has already fallen, not a forecast. The source stops at zoom level 7, so close zooms look soft.
Why is the radar not loading?
Check your connection and tap Try again. RainViewer's free service has no availability guarantee. If frames load slowly, hold the map still: Twofold limits itself to 80 radar requests a minute and loads the newest frame first. An area may also be outside radar coverage. For US places, Open US radar opens the official NWS radar site.
Forecast alerts
How do forecast alerts work?
Open About & settings → Forecast alerts and tap Add alert. Choose temperature or feels like above or below a value, rain chance, wind gusts, or UV index, for one saved city or all of them, at the forecast hour or 1, 3 or 12 hours before. Up to 10 alerts can be saved. Forecast alerts are separate from the official NWS alerts card on the forecast.
Twofold looks through the next 36 hours of each city's saved forecast and schedules a notification when the forecast newly crosses your threshold. These are your own thresholds, not official warnings, and they are scheduled on the device.
Why are my alerts not arriving?
- Notifications are off. On the alerts page, tap Open notification settings and allow them. Focus modes and summaries can also hold them back.
- The app has not refreshed recently. Alerts are planned only when Twofold refreshes a city in the app. There is no background fetch, and a forecast more than 12 hours old plans nothing new.
- The alert is off or the threshold was not crossed. A missing forecast value never counts as a crossing.
- Too many alerts. At most 20 notifications are scheduled at once, soonest first.
Your data
How do I delete stored data?
Removing a saved city removes its entry, saved snapshot and any alerts set for that city, but does not immediately clear the separate HTTP or radar caches. There is no in-app reset button. Deleting the app removes its local data; offloading it keeps the data. Provider logs and existing device backups are separate. See Your controls and deletion.
What is sent over the network?
Weather requests send rounded coordinates and your IP address to the providers. City searches send the text you type to Open-Meteo. The radar and map contact RainViewer and Apple. There are no accounts, ads or analytics. Full details are in the privacy policy.
