How to play
- On first play, choose "Learn to play". Read the steering lesson, then tap "Start practice" for one safe drop. The game pauses after your first gap so you can read the remaining lessons. "Start game" begins a fresh run in your chosen mode. Replay Tutorial from the main menu whenever you like.
- Drag left or right over the tower, below the top display, to turn it. You can turn at any time, including mid-air; the tower eases smoothly toward your drag.
- Lifting your finger only ends the drag. The ball keeps falling or bouncing on its own. Taps do nothing.
- Watch the guide on the tower: a hollow ring for each gap you would pass, a broken ring for a charged smash, a double ring at a bounce, and a coral cross at a hazardous landing. Pause shows the route in words.
- In Classic, an unprotected hazard or empty energy ends the run. Each ring gives two free bounces; later unshielded bounces cost one of five energy segments. Gold restores one segment. Zen has no hazards or energy loss.
The pace is slow enough to read the tower ahead of the ball. A gap must be wide enough for the ball to clear it; catching an edge counts as a landing rather than a pass, and a safe landing bounces the ball back up.
The guide forecasts what happens if you stop turning, including the tower settling toward your last drag. It is a preview, not autopilot: it never turns the tower or changes the ball. It looks ahead at most six contacts or three seconds. "CONTINUES" means the preview reached its limit, not that the route beyond it is clear.
The live header keeps score, energy, Shield when held, and Pause visible. Gold count, chain, and the full forecast are on the paused screen. "BOUNCE -1 ENERGY" warns of a cost; "OUT OF ENERGY" predicts exhaustion; "SHIELD BOUNCE" predicts a protected landing.
Scoring and charge
- Pass a gap
- Earn 1 point. Chains do not multiply the score, and there is no score ceiling.
- Perfect +1
- Cross the central third of the ball-fitting opening for 1 extra point. This also collects the gold or Shield in that opening.
- Gold and energy
- Gold restores one of five energy segments immediately, capped at five. It still counts as collected at full energy. Repeated bouncing cannot farm pickups, and missed pickups disappear when the ring clears.
- Shield
- A blue Shield is the only power pickup. It protects one hazardous landing and bounces without an energy cost. A new Shield refreshes the same one-hit protection; it cannot stack.
- Charge the ball
- Clear three consecutive gaps without a landing in between, with any mix of ordinary and Perfect passes. Further gap passes keep the ball charged until its next solid contact.
- Smash a ring
- A charged ball automatically breaks the next solid ring for 2 points, even a hazard. The smash consumes the charge, resets the chain, and leaves any Shield intact.
- Reach a new stage
- Every 12 cleared rings adds 5 points. Openings narrow and turns sharpen with depth; Classic adds hazards, and deep towers introduce gentle ring drift. The run continues without a level break.
Common questions
Why does the tutorial start moving after the first lesson?
That is a short practice drop. The header says "Practice" and there are no hazards or energy loss. Clear one gap and the game pauses automatically with "Practice complete". Read the remaining lessons, then tap "Start game" when you are ready.
Does Spiral need an internet connection?
No. Gameplay is offline and the app makes no network requests. There is no account or Game Center sign-in. Downloading or updating the app through Apple, opening this website, and sending support email use separate services.
Are there ads or in-app purchases?
No. There are no ad breaks, paid continues, or in-app purchases.
Are gold and powers saved between runs?
No. Gold restores energy and Shield protects one landing. They reset with each run. There is no saved currency, inventory, or ball-unlock system.
Can I resume after losing or closing the app?
Pause and Resume work within an active run. If the app becomes inactive, play pauses; returning does not resume it automatically. Choose Resume with a deliberate tap; a stray swipe over the button does nothing. Resume picks the ball up exactly where it was, with no catch-up time added.
"Drop again" starts a fresh run. A Classic loss cannot be continued, and an in-progress run is not saved for restoration after the app closes. Recorded statistics and settings are saved separately.
What does Zen change?
Zen removes hazards and energy loss. Gold, Perfect bonuses, three-gap smashes, and tower bonuses still apply. Finish whenever you like: pause, then choose "Finish run". Zen has separate personal bests.
How do I change the controls or reduce motion?
Open Settings to adjust sensitivity or invert the drag direction. Reduced motion removes decorative animation, including pickup pulsing. The ball, drifting rings, and their guide marks still move as part of gameplay. Pickups and Perfect bonuses remain available. You can also choose Lagoon, Clay, or Midnight and switch sound and haptics on or off independently.
How do I play with VoiceOver?
Focus "Tower control". During play, swipe up to turn one step clockwise or down to turn one step counterclockwise, even in the air. Its value describes your score, energy, next bounce allowance, active power, and conditional forecast. Critical energy, power pickups, shield use, and the reason for a loss are announced when they happen. Use the Pause action to take a break. The forecast does not steer for you.
Why is there no sound or haptic feedback?
Perfect passes have a distinct soft sound and a tiny haptic. Check the sound and haptic switches in Spiral's settings. For sound, also check silent mode, output volume, and whether audio is routed to headphones or another device. Haptics depend on your iPhone and system settings; not every game event produces a haptic.
If feedback stops after an interruption, pause and resume. If it remains unavailable, end the run before reopening the app, then contact support with the steps that caused the problem.
Where are my scores? Do they sync?
Spiral keeps per-mode best scores and depths, up to 20 recent runs, lifetime run/floor counts, and your longest chain locally. Earlier scores retain their original values under "Earlier scoring," separate from new personal bests. Tutorial practice is not recorded. Run duration excludes pauses.
There is no online leaderboard, cloud-sync service, achievement system, or daily challenge. iOS may include local data in your device backups; backup restoration is controlled by Apple and your settings, not by Spiral.
How do I remove my local data?
Deleting Spiral removes its local settings and statistics from that device. Offloading the app keeps its data. Existing iCloud or computer backups may still contain older data, and restoring a backup may restore it. Manage backups separately through Apple's controls.
The developer cannot recover deleted local scores. See the backup and removal policy before deleting data.
